Manuscript Guidelines for College Contest
For Contest Submission:
- Submissions to be at least 2500 words and should not exceed 4,000 words in length.
- Setup the document to print on 8 ½" x 11" paper with standard margins of 1 inch.
- Title and author should be put on a separate title page.
- Place page number and name in the upper right-hand corner of each page.
- Double space throughout the manuscript, including extracts (quotes over five lines long), endnotes, and any other supplementary material.
- Extracts: Quotations that will make five or more lines in typescript. Distinguish extracts by extra space above and below, and by indenting an extra five spaces on the left.
- Include an endnote giving the complete citation of the original for all passages cited from other sources, such as a poem by Neihardt.
- References (citations) should appear as endnotes, following the guidelines set forth in The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed., rev.
- Type endnotes separately from the text and place at the end of the manuscript. Note number in text should be in superscript, but in the endnotes section, note number should be regular text style. Use regular paragraph indentation for the first line of each note. Number notes consecutively.
- Submit manuscripts electronically, using MS Word or WordPerfect format.
